As a new graduate stepping into the work space, my style has changed a lot in the past 6 months. I am a creature of comfort when it comes to getting dressed. When I was a student at NYU, my closet was filled with comfy graphic sweatshirts and athleisure-inspired sweatpants I would pair with moto boots and sneakers. Now as I get used to the office life, I've had to make some alterations. Here are a few tips on how to transition your closet from school to work.
Swipe your tank tops with camis
Camis are your new best friend. You can repurpose and find different ways to wear them every season. Layer it over a turtleneck during the winter, layer it under your blazer during spring and fall and wear it over your favorite wrap skirt in the summer.
This is my favorite cami because its scoop neck detail creates a sexy yet elegant shape.
Swipe your graphic t-shirts for statement tops
I found that wearing monochrome in the morning has made my life easy. When I find myself not knowing what to wear, I choose a color instead. Monochrome chic is a thing now.
Here is my go-to top when I want to wear jeans but still look stylish. I pair it with my dark washed denim and always get compliments.
Swipe your sweats for velvet flares
I love wearing sweatpants but they aren’t appropriate for work. The key is to find comfy pants you don’t want to take off.
This pair of midnight velvet pleated pants is perfect because they are so comfortable and super easy to style. Style these with with the midnight tie neck top and there you have it: the coolest yet most comfortable monochrome outfit.
Swipe your sweatshirts for blazers
A good blazer can be hard to find, but when you do you never want to take it off. You’ll be grateful when you have several well-fitting blazers to help pull your work outfits together.
I like this one because I can style it in so many different ways and honestly- you can never go wrong with a black velvet blazer.
Swipe your sneakers for block heel mules
Mules have become my best friends recently; they are super easy to walk/run to work in and they don’t hurt my feet. Pro tip: I always buy mine half a size large.
These are my latest favorites from Zara.
